Skater Motion (Page 8)
1 Describe a skater’s speed on the first part of a hill.
2 Describe a skater’s speed on the last part of a hill.
3 How does a skater’s speed change as they go down a long hill?
4 Describe the distance traveled in one second on a hill’s first part.
5 Describe the distance traveled in one second on a hill’s last part.
6 How does the distance traveled change from the first part of a hill to the last part of a Hill?

Galileo’s Ramp
  • Put 6 rubber bands on the ramp and clap or tap each time the ball bearing hits a rubber band as it rolls down the ramp.
  • Place rubber bands on the ramp so you get quick clapping.
  • Place rubber bands on the ramp so you get slow clapping.
  • Evenly space 6 rubber bands on the ramp.
I) Is there exactly the same amount of time between claps? How might the timing be changing between the claps?
Place rubber bands on the ramp so than when a ball-bearing hits them an even beat is produced.
II) Draw the last system to scale. 2m = 20cm
III) Graph the distance between rubber bands vs beats.
IV) Describe the motion of a ball down an incline hitting rubber bands to an even beat.
